Mass conversion, with a worked example
Using the fields
Type a mass into grams, kilograms, pounds or ounces. The other fields update immediately. One avoirdupois pound is exactly 453.59237 grams and contains 16 avoirdupois ounces. For example, 2 pounds equals 907.18474 grams before display rounding.
Which ounce?
This converter uses ordinary avoirdupois mass ounces. It does not use troy ounces for precious metals, or fluid ounces for liquid volume. Converting a volume to mass requires the material’s density, which this tool does not know.
Limits
Keep the original measurement and its precision when transferring a result to a recipe, shipping label or technical specification. Displayed decimal places do not make an imprecise scale more accurate. These calculations run in the browser without uploading a file. Reference: NIST Guide to the SI, conversion factors.
